Attributes of Wool: Being a natural fibre, sustainable and renewable, its production does not involve unnecessary cruelty. Wool provides a natural insulation for all seasons and its fibres naturally retain their original shape. It is also fire resistant, biodegradable and recyclable. We have three breeds of sheep and use their fleeces in our products: Shetlands: Shetland Sheep have for generations been noted for their very soft and well crimped fleece. The wool is the finest of all native breeds and shows an amazing variety of colours and patterns. By selecting from coloured fleeces a range of naturally coloured yarn can be produced. This eliminates the need for dyeing and therefore retains the soft feel of the natural fibre and is favoured by those who prefer a totally natural approach. Corriedales: A crossbreed of the Merino and Lincoln Longwool - this fibre combines the fineness of Merino with the lustre of the longer stapled Lincoln sheep. Hampshire Downs: A fibre of moderate length with a close and fine texture, used in the production of hosiery, handknitted wools and felt. Some of our Hampshire Downs have been crossed with Jacobs giving us dark brown fleece as well as the traditional white fleece. Soon after acquiring the sheep we decided we wanted to process the fine fleeces and sent them away first of all to Wales and recently to Scotland to be spun. Some of the spun fleece was then dispatched to a Mill in Wales to be made up into the blankets and throws we offer. The rest is returned to us in the natural cream and brown colours either to be sold as knitting wool or to be handknitted into slipovers, hats and mittens. Natural, vegetable dying has become a huge interest for me and, time permitting, small amounts of knitting wool can be purchased dyed in various colours from such materials as onions skins, dahlia flowers, weld, brazilwood, logwood and many others. This wool can be purchased from the Farmers' Markets we attend. BLANKETS: Completely sumptuous, but light and very soft our pure wool blankets are perfect for the winter or for those who really feel the cold to snuggle in. They are woven in four designs in suble checks and stripes with tassled edges for the informal look and blend in with any decor.
Size 72" x 58" £75.00 Post and packaging extra THROWS: With the same qualities as the blankets, the throws are ideal for interior design purposes. The natural shades complimenting perfectly both the modern minimal settings of many of today's fashionable residences, whilst also adding that something extra to the tradional country house. Ideal to snuggle into on those chilly winter, or even for the cooler summer evenings, whilst relaxing at home. Doubled over they can be used as cot blankets - perfect as wool reduces the damp/humid conditions required for the life cycle of the dust mite (excellent for asthma and allergy sufferers - particularly good for children).
Size 40" x 58" £45.00 Post and packaging extra When caring for your blanket/throw follow the instructions. If cared for correctly, wool items can be washed or dry cleaned time and time again and never lose their shape, warmth or texture. Please note that ony the blankets are available through The Telegraph Offer. When sending in your cheque and vouchers please quote the reference TELE10
